Rillig Lab (Plant, fungal and soil ecology lab)

Institute of Biology
Faculty of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy

We are a large research team (>50 scientists), from over 22 countries, in the Institute of Biology at Freie Universität. The PI (Prof. Rillig) is also the head of the Berlin-Brandenburg Institute of Advanced Biodiversity Research (BBIB; https://www.bbib.org/home.html). Our lab currently has about 2.0 Million Euro per year of external funding. The group has extensive infrastructure for molecular ecology work, soil work, microscopy, as well as plant growth facilities (greenhouses, controlled environment chambers), and excellent lab facilities for incubation in the context of climate change work.

Our lab works at the intersection of Global change biology and soil ecology. We ask questions about biodiversity, ecosystem functioning in terrestrial ecosystems. The range of global change factors we address also includes microplastic and other
