Our Research Group, MOMAT, develops and studies mathematical models of interest for the society. We develop software packages for the required simulation as well. There is a wide spectrum of fields of interest, like: risk analysis, epidemic propagation, bioreactors, oil spills, lithium batteries, high pressure, image processing, elasticity, structures, etc. We have contacts and contracts with several companies and organizations (see our webpage to see the full list of partners).
We have all the infrastructure of the Interdisciplinary Mathematics Institute (IMI) and the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid. This includes one of the best Spanish mathematical library, administrative staff and computer technicians. Furthermore our group has two servers with multiple processors and GPUs for intensive computing tasks, together with good personal computers for each, researcher, profesional software packages, laptops, etc.
Our main research topic is the mathematical model, mainly (although not exclusively) involving Partial Differential Equations and Ordinary Differential Equations. Our research involves several steps (depending on the problem we take into account all or only some of them):
1) Development of mathematical models for the design of prototypes and processes in science and technology.
2) Mathematical analysis of the models.
3) Development of numerical algorithms for the approximation of the solutions of the models.
4) Numerical analysis of the algorithms.
5) Implementation of the algorithm in software packages for the required simulation as well.
6) Control and Optimization of processes.
