Fundación Teófilo Hernando (FTH) is a non-profitable organisation dedicated to drup discovery in three main activities: (1) training of young graduate or doctoral students in all aspects of drug discovery, development, marketing and innovation (arou 1000 of our students have found employment at pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisations (CRO) and clinical investigation units of hospitals); (2) design and execution of Phase I-III clinical trials, mostly supported by pharmaceutical companies; and (3) support of PhD programmes of Instituto Teófilo Hernando de I+D del Medicamento (ITH), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Madrid, Spain. Our training capabilities are linked to preclinical studies at ITH laboratories, Facultad de Medicina, mostly on compound desing and synthesis, pharmacological screening and mechanisms of action, in the area of neurodegenerative diseases) and clinical trial in CNs diseases and other areas. President of FTH, Antonio G. García, has directed 70 PhD Thesis and actually is PI of European Project Nº 766124 Marie Curie. FTH employs 20 people working in clinical trials mainsly, but also in some preclinical projects. Postdoctoral students may acquire a solid backgoround in drug discovery both at preclinical an clinical developmental stages.

FTH is located at the Scientific Park of Madrid (PCM) inthe UAM Cantoblanco Campus. Twenty people are actually working at FTH, that collaborate tighly with UAM in two main ways: (i) various masters and courses having UAM official titles are coordinated and run in all their activities and task by FTH Department of Education and Training, through an agreement with UAM; (ii) various contracts of UAM with pharmaceutical companies («Cátedras de Patrocinio») are also run by FTH. FTH has not its own laboratories but gives support and tightly collaborate with scientists (mostly neuropharmacologists) at ITH-UAM. FTH has a director (Mr. Arturo García de Diego), a president (Antonio G. García) a Patron Committee formed by recognised scientists and it si slowly growing since its creation in 1995. Weekly internal and external research seminars jointly organised by FTH, ITH and the Departamento de Farmacología y Terapéutica of Facultad de Medicina, warrant an excellent training atmospherre in drug discovery and development, for young postdoctoral fellows.
